Anxiety Therapy for Teens & Adults in Evanston

You replay the conversation. Then you replay it again.

The unanswered text. The comment in the meeting. The look that might have meant something—or nothing. By midnight, you've built a whole story, and you're the villain.

From the outside, you've got it handled. Inside, the second-guessing never switches off. Anxiety therapy can help you quiet the noise and get back to the life you want.

When being thoughtful gets exhausting

The sensitivity that makes you perceptive can go into overdrive. Maybe you:

  • Replay conversations and question what you said

  • Fill silence with worst-case stories

  • Chase perfect and dread getting it wrong

  • People-please or dodge conflict

  • Second-guess every decision

  • End the day wiped out, but can't rest

At the root: you've stopped trusting yourself. Real anxiety treatment starts there.

For parents: Anxiety in teens

Teen anxiety doesn't always look like worry. It can look like avoiding school or friends, irritability, carrying too much for others, or intense fear of judgment. That last one may signal social anxiety. Social anxiety therapy helps teens understand the fear and show up anyway, with parents part of the process.

You're not the only one

Anxiety is one of the most common mental health concerns for teens and adults. It often grows from strategies that once worked: staying in control, anticipating others' needs, striving for perfect. Over time, they wear you down. When managing anxiety crowds out the life you want, anxiety counseling can help.

How anxiety therapy works with me

I'm Amy Owen, an anxiety therapist with 14 years of experience with tweens, teens, young adults, and adults. I blend two approaches:

  • Relational psychodynamic therapy: how your experiences and relationships shape how you see yourself, including patterns that show up between us.

  • Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT): the flexibility to tolerate uncertainty and act on what matters.

This kind of psychotherapy for anxiety goes beyond coping skills. My style is warm, curious, and collaborative, with plenty of humor.

Training: graduate degree in counseling, Northeastern Illinois University · Contextual Behavior Therapy Fellowship, University of Chicago · Institute for Advanced Psychotherapy, Loyola University Chicago.

What you can expect

  • See the patterns that keep you stuck

  • Sit with uncertainty without spiraling

  • Decide without endless second-guessing

  • Take risks that matter

  • Feel more present with the people you love

If your worry feels constant and hard to pin down, generalized anxiety disorder therapy focuses less on erasing it and more on changing your relationship to it.
